(and appologies for two threads at the same time, but trying to keep the subjects relevent/distinct)

Something that's only just occoured to me...
I'm fairly sure the Dragon Lore system rules (litterally rules, as opposed to roleplay) don't include any kind of "you just die" abilities and just wanted to clear this up:

If a player takes too much damage they go down into a death count.
But what happens if they are attacked whilst in a death count?
I'd just assumed that, basically, nothing actually changes ~ you can't actually hack up a dying person to get them to die any faster.
Doing so may just be appropriate roleplay for a sinister demon type critter and a way of attracting player's attention to the plight of the suffering victim, but doesn't achieve anything per-se.

Otherwise there doesn't seem all that much point in having a Death Count rule in many ways...

On a slightly similar note I observed the calls "Throat Slit" and "Decapitate" being used...
Don't get me wrong: I'm not against abilities like that exisiting.
I'd just quietly suggest letting people know of their existance and how they work before they get waved around.

{Just in case I'm misunderstood, I'll point out that this isn't anything personal, I'm "curious about rules" and very much not "pointing fingers"}

Hi Pete, You are correct in as much as hacking up someone on their death count doesnt speed the death up - may attract attention to their predicament but won't speed them along their path UNLESS that person chooses to role play such effects - that is entirely their own choice.

Throat slit - doesnt appear in the rules and won't but I think what has happened is that people have taken calls from other systems they know and utilised them in the system. This does need clearing up - however, how I think it should work and this is down to the plot team en mass and the pcs alike - is that if someone wishes to call throat slit or whatever then fine (we all do get used to varied calls through varied systems) but it still only counts as 1hp regardless (unless that pc has critical hit or such like).
For instance some toad Wink called throat slit on my kender - she actually had enough hp to survive that but at the time I chose to role play her dying from it. My choice because 1. the guy doing it had managed to get behind me without me realising it so I figured it rewarded him for being a sneaky little sod and 2. I thought it would the fitting thing to do - knife to throat is gonna be pretty fatal. Not saying it was the right thing to do and anything else would of been wrong just it was what I chose at the spur of the moment (RIP poor ROSE) Wink

Decapitate doesnt exist in the system - that does need clearing up - however personally I think if someone has completed their death count and another pc/monster wants to come chop the head of then fair play to them - thats a personal view though - I do intend to ensure the lack of decapitate is stated clearly within the rules.

I also personally think it should be available to pcs to decapitate monsters though - thoughts?

Of course we, (plot) are open to all suggestions from pcs with things they want implementing or would like to see within the system and this type of thread is great for such discussions so lets see what others think Smile

Buffy (under his log in cos mine is mucking about grrrr)
I agree with Buffy on all counts above Smile

There is lots that need clearing up. As Dragon Lore grows, I am sure more and more issues will arise. We will ensure that we keep track of these and move to rectify them.

Decapitation, in my honest opinion, should only work if the body is already dead. IE creature is down, dead, and the PC removes its head. I do not see it ever being used as and instant kill. I am sure the plot team will agree we never intend for PC ta have one hit kill powers Smile

Oh and by the way. I FIXED THE LOGOUT PROBLEM Tongue sorry, was a coding fault on the messageboard that prevented people logging out. Well taken me all day but its now fixed.

Nice!
I very much like the fact that folk can choose to take extra fall out from being attacked in a cool way.
Not only will it reward that effort that's put in but will also, in turn, encourage people to make attacks "look good" which will add to the feel and flow of the game.

Only problem is inconsistancy: If players A B & C are all happy to die when their throats are slit but player B is a bit of a stickler for the rules and refuses there's a risk that the murdering sneak will be offended. But that should be minimal if the fact that it's the victim's choice is stressed: So everyone should not just assume such a nasty tactic will always work but should be prepared for faliure...

I'd worry that there's a distinction between what players can do and what monsters can do...
Perhaps though creating a "coup-de-grace" /"behead" skill that people could buy?
That way relevant/mean & nasty NPC parts could do it as could players who choose to.

May add un-needed complexity though...
