The Chronicals Of Althea & Cyrus (From Start to present date)
December 11th, 2007
“Well what we have here is a failure to communicate” or this is what should have been said about these pair at the start.
It all started with 2 arrows landing between his feet, shortly followed by another that grazed his cheek but this unbeknown to him was not actually intended for him but for the creature behind him!
During the fight he sits himself down and starts to eat from meat that is roasting on Althea’s fire.
This angers her somewhat and she kicks it out of his hand.
Small extract of that situation just so you know what they are about
“Well I know Cyrus must mean COWARD in your tongue you god damned yellow bellied woose! Would you like me to change your diaper while you eat?” Comes the torrent of abuse as she marches rapidly towards him.
She aims a kick to his hand holding the meat “And don’t bloody well eat unless invited”
Relations between the pair degraded somewhat and to this day he believes a tree fell on his head, Althea knows otherwise.
So it continued and even after she had been injured she tried to stand to fight him by throwing lumps of wood at him. This was until Bowman interjected.
Althea drags herself to her feet ignoring the pain ricocheting through her leg…starts moving towards Cyrus. Realising she cant actually walk she picks up a lump of wood and throws it in his general direction in anger.”Come here and heal me you and Ill fight you fair and square you yellow livered coward!”
Bowman stands and with the hilt of his sword knocks Althea unconscious.
She falls to the floor and he covers her with her furs
“There we go piece and quiet.”
“She needs the rest.”
So it continued until she overheard Bowman and Dili talking about her, she didn’t like this so she decided to leave, with the pretence of going hunting she went, determined never to return.
Bowman persuaded Cyrus to follow her by saying he would be able to gloat over her when she fell foul to some creature or other.
Soon though they ran into trouble of the ugly kind in the fog. This is where Cyrus’s true nature came through, Althea was rendered unconscious while trying to escape a vicious creature in a building. Cyrus stepped in as the hero of the hour; this was after using her as bait of course. Yet he did save her from the burning building, taking some nasty burns, mind you it was him who set it alight in the first place.
Next fate stepped in and Cyrus was captured by a Wendigo. Hanging, upside-down and at a loss of what to do next. His quick thinking led to using a throwing knife that he had concealed on his person to cut the rope that suspending him. I do wonder if he still has that lump on his head though. This is where he spied a rather ornate box in the corner of the room; he decided to relieve the owner of the box with the burden of having the box and take it with him. Althea meanwhile against her better nature, decided she should better go and rescue the poor helpless man.
Soon she was crawling though a tunnel and being rather shocked that she could see so well. Little does she know she is actually half elf? Well the pair met up and they decided retreat was the better option and as they were leaving down a tunnel Cyrus was faced by yet another Wendigo, without any hesitation he started to try and batter at it with the box, eventually the box smashed spilling its contents across the floor, he did find time to pick them up again though. Althea on the other hand had a giant spider advancing on her the other end of the tunnel. So picture the scene if you will, you have a tunnel under the floorboards of the house above. A very angry and hungry Wendigo feeling rather offended at only being attacked by a box. Along with a giant spider, advancing from the other end. They were almost back to back, fighting for their lives with a wooden ceiling above them. What did Cyrus do he threw a lit touch at the monster. Hey one second, a wooden ceiling! Ops the wood caught fire, now not only are they trapped but the ceiling is on fire. At this point Althea ha suffered a dangerous blow to the head that was shortly going to cause her to pass out, she did manage to finish the spider off before passing out I must add. Cyrus again had a true moment of hero achievement, he smashed his way through the floor above them and dragged poor old Althea out . Yet again saving the lady best described as “a rabid dog on a hot tin roof.”
He helped her to the barn where he tended to her wounds. Soon she was on the mend. Yet she did still not trust him.
After recovering their strength they decided to try and find the rest of the party, yet when they got to the clearing all they found was a scene of devastation. Lucky for them though, they found their packs and started out again trying to find the others.
The passage through the tunnel was uneventful and so was the decent down the rock face.
But as they crossed a hidden ice covered river there was a great crack and the ice broke, tumbling Cyrus onto the bank but Althea slid right into the frozen waters. Cyrus the hero again managed to pull her out. Yet she was cold, very cold, in fact she had started the first stage of hypothermia, so Cyrus helped her back up the rock face and back to the tunnel. He started very carefully to take her armour off as he did not want her waking up and getting the wrong idea and gutting him. Soon the fire and vigorous rubbing from Cyrus prevented the hypothermia setting in. Here they settled down and actually started talking to each other. They even started to, shall we say like each other. Or maybe that’s to strong a word. So this is where I will leave them for now. I will add more to this story as it happens.
